Dear Amigos,

Life is digital—we know it. We basically live inside a screen and have the attention span of a fly. Regardless of this digital ecosphere we’re trapped in, plenty of humans are still fighting for a world where ink and paper are still relevant. The experience of opening a freshly printed book and smelling its pages—at least for me—is a feeling screens haven’t offered yet. It’s no secret that the editorial world is struggling in every hemisphere.

Year by year, this once-massive industry is shrinking, driven by society’s shift in values and behavior. Regardless, some superheroes are still pushing the line forward—swimming against the current and staying afloat.

Today, we bring you an independent publishing house in Italy, hidden in the Tuscan region and connecting talented artists who have something to say with an audience willing to hear it. Welcome to Giostre Edizioni.

Working with under-35 artists, Giostre brings emerging voices in photography and visual arts to the spotlight, giving them a platform to bring their unique narratives to ink and paper. From Italy and beyond, they’ve dropped at least seven gems, fueled by poetic narratives circumscribed by editorial layouts waiting to live rent-free on your coffee table.

At A Type of Amigo, we believe print isn’t going anywhere. We’re seeing a rising scene of independent publishers every year, showcasing work that matters to niche audiences—because there is still an audience. Giostre is a beautiful example of resilience and taking life into your own hands. We must create the world we dreamed of, and projects like this—born from love for a better society—are living proof that it’s possible.

Believe in your craft, keep insisting, and do the work no one is asking for. Maybe it doesn’t make sense today, but down the line, please email me and tell me how it went. If you’re an emerging artist, keep one eye on Giostre’s open calls and showcase your talent with this wonderful independent reality.

Yours truly,
A Type of Camila
