Even seasoned designers have likely googled “Instagram Portrait Size in Pixels” at some point. In the fast-paced world of digital design, keeping track of optimal image sizes can be tricky. To help out our fellow creators (and ourselves!), we’ve compiled a one-stop resource to answer all your image sizing questions. This way, you’ll have a handy reference to come back to whenever you need it.
Instagram, crowned the most popular social media platform in the Digital 2024 report, also boasts the most diverse range of post sizes. These sizes fall into three main categories: feed posts, stories, and Reels.
- Profile Picture: 320 x 320 pixels
- Feed Posts:
- Square: 1080 x 1080 pixels
- Portrait: 1080 x 1350 pixels (aspect ratio 4:5)
- Landscape: 1080 x 566 pixels (aspect ratio 16:9)
- Stories and reels: 1080 x 1920 pixels (aspect ratio 9:16)
Note: Always make sure that the essential parts of your content fall into the safe zone (shown in the illustration below)
Tiktok
TikTok is mostly a video-based platform so you´ll be good to go with a vertical size as long as you remain conscious of the safe zone.
- Profile Picture: Minimum 20 x 20 pixels. Recommended size: 320 x 320 pixels.
- Video: 1080 x 1920 pixels (vertical)
X (formerly Twitter)
X keeps it simple optimizing posts with a single horizontal post size. You can also post square images, but we recommend only posting one at a time. If you post multiple square photos, the full content won’t be displayed unless users open each file separately.
- Feed Post Image: 1600 x 900 pixels
- Square Images: 1080 x 1080 pixels
- Profile Picture: 400 x 400 pixels
Facebook
Facebook has a very adaptable platform, showcasing your content in many different ratios. We recommend using a square size.
- Square: 1080 x 1080 pixels
- Portrait: 1080 x 1350 pixels (aspect ratio 4:5)
- Landscape: 1080 x 566 pixels (aspect ratio 16:9)
- Stories: 1080 x 1920 pixels (aspect ratio 9:16)
- Profile Picture: 185 x 185 pixels
- Cover photo: 820 x 360 pixels
Pinterest
Pinterest is also a highly adaptable platform, but we recommend using a vertical size to make sure your posts stand out on your audience´s feed.
- Pin: 1000 x 1500 pixels – aspect ratio 2:3
- Board Cover: 222 x 150 pixels
LinkedIn
On Linkedin, the optimal sizes are horizontal or square. We recommend using the square size to showcase your content since it will take more space on your users’s computers, maintaining their attention on your post.
- Feed Post Image: 1350 x 724 pixels (aspect ratio 18:5)
- Square Image: 1080 x 1080 pixels
- Profile Picture: 400 x 400 pixels
